Broken Beauty by CMWVisualArts Broken Beauty by CMWVisualArts
The original name was French, but I kept thinking it was wrong, so I just put it in English. Anyway, to protect from theft, most of my Watchers know that I have only been posting fractals at 800pix wide. Now that deviantART has finally finished that long-awaited update, I can post the full fractals - for points. I will explain the specifics in a Journal later.

Also, this is the slightly more detailed, yet more rigid twin of "Electric":

I really prefer Electric to this piece. The main differences I notice between the two are symmetry, definition, and color palette. Electric transitions from three to nine-fold symmetry, while this piece starts from six and goes to twelve. While three-fold symmetry is thought provoking, as it is a prime symmetry which is reasonable difficult to divide objects into, six-fold symmetry is seen more often. Therefore, when you take a three-fold symmetry and divide it into three again, this is considerably more interesting than taking the fairly pedestrian sixfold symmetry and dividing it into two (everyone knows how to divide things in two, and has seen it done countless times). The definition between the different components of Electric is also better than between the components of this piece. For the symmetries and components of the piece to be evident, you should avoid unnecessary components, and use blurring and interference between components only when it is artistically called for. Finally, I am not a great fan of the color scheme, and am unsure what the rationale for red and blue was. I much prefer the yellow and blue of Electric, but believe that you might get even more out of your pieces by using three or more colors.

This is very nice! It's so sparkly, and I like the way I can see through the flower petals!

Simply felt that I should add in tandem to my critique of your artwork a critique of the policy of reserving information and offering larger resolution files and fractal icons for purchased download only. Being so quick to commoditize something of that nature inhibits its free transmission and makes deviantART feel less like a community, where one posts things in order to gauge others' reactions, and more like a marketplace, where one sells one's mental wares. Especially for someone like me, who does not spend money on deviantART and does not intend to start, this is most unwelcome. This is not to say these things do not have value, as they do... but often I feel as if there is a strong parallel between the commodization of intellectual property and this story: [link] except that, of course, the courts are entirely sympathetic to the baker.

I understand what you mean, but I did not start doing this only in the hope that no one would steal my art. If that were the case, I would never supply anyone with the larger file at all. The other reason is because I don't have the money to continue my Premium Membership, and points definitely help.

I understand that you are not a routine buyer [or a buyer at all (?)], and that you, among many others, would rather not have to pay just to see a bigger image on a screen, and I apologize. I can guarantee to you that this will not continue indefinitely [considering not many people purchase items on deviantART anyway], and that I will eventually start posting full sized items again.

I agree with you that I shouldn't be so quick to turn a previously enjoyed free work into a product, and it will only last a bit longer.
